HOG LEG Squeal • OniDisc Recordings
"Crazy Mothers"
Stumbling from the depths of drunken early morning parties and all day pig roasts, HOGLEG has
brought the daring numbers of Butterheads to the live music scene throughout Mid-Missouri and
even to St. Louis and Kansas City. Butterheads are the devout followers of HOGLEG. The band
has had no problem relating to their audience and HOGLEG also enjoys an audience that "feels"
what they are about. HOGLEG is real, bare, and somehow comprehensive. They are the epitome
of Midwestern culture.
HOGLEG creates music the old-fashioned way, it comes from a compilation of the members
personalities. So let me tell you a little bit about them. Jon plays guitar and sings. He is a painter, and
a great one at that. Jon's lyrical content is very colorful and visually stimulating as one might expect,
however, it is sometimes verging on the border of psychotic. "You never would have thought than
an acoustic Fender could sound like that!", exclaimed an innocent bystander as Jon screams in his
drawl, "Hey, I've got Mad-Cow's Disease!"
Taylor, who works in a mental hospital (so they can keep an eye on him) plays bass and also sings
for HOGLEG. From the driving country feel to the rumbling fuzz of bass distortion, Taylor lays
down mentally deranged grooves, that's for sure. His lyrical substance should be evaluated for the
next School House Rock release.
And then of course the glue of HOGLEG, Billy Thomason busts loose with jazz/punk/rockabilly
rythmns that take the band and all those entranced by the butter energy surrounding the Hog boys,
on tempo changes that almost make yer heart stop. Billy supplies the practice space in his apartment
that is located above his job at the liquor store.
Sometimes lurking in the shadows on stage or playing his noise maker from the bathroom at Billy's
place, the peripherial member, D-503, adds a rich variety of tonal coloring with phasing, slide guitar
and chunky rythmns. Little is known about the so-called member except for rumored involvement
with the CIA.
HOGLEG doesn't seem to be interested in hype or any of that, they have fun playing music and
people even pay them money to do it. There is no doubt that these little pigs are in Hog Heaven.
Keep your eye out for HOGLEG as they make their way to your neck of the woods spreading the
Midwest culture across America and the rest of the universe.
